Hot water costs

If we accept Melba Morris?s figures in her recent correspondence (Gradual escalation in hot water costs) and use the Australian Bureau of Statistics figures (available online) to compare her costs with average monthly earnings in 1993 and 2010, it is plain to see that it cost 0.

19 per cent of her income in 1993 and 0.35 per cent in 2010. This means that the cost of heating water in a vintage hot water system has almost doubled in just under 20 years. I would suggest that she get her hot water system maintained (a new heating element, perhaps?). Or better yet, install a passive solar hot water system and then she can enjoy free hot water.

"Saving money is always in fashion - and many of us are looking at solar hot water as a good way of lessening the blow on our bank accounts?.but we need some questions answered. Solar hot water solutions can provide up to 80% of your hot water using power from the sun with a gas or electric-powered booster for the rest, say Ureco, solar power leaders in Perth.?? To give you a taste of the sort of input you can expect, here are some points taken from forums from Whirlpool and the Alternative Technology Association: It?s really down to a personal choice, and you need to take on board all the information you can, talk to the experts in solar water heating systems in Perth ..and boost your bottom line with solar hot water."
